Beyond A Mothers Mind

Toddler Breakfast

This picture is a simple breakfast for a 3.5 year old. He is a fruit monster! He will eat basically any and all fruit I have given him. Now, given his allergies and intolerances protein is important.

For us, it was super important to find healthier options. Before I learned about health, and sugar intake and food dyes I was giving the boys the Chewy bars. Now. They makes a great snack… However there are better options! Clif Kid bars are great for protein and better ingredients. Fig Bars are pretty great too. Kiddos think they are snacks but they also have nutrients in them.

I highly recommend checking out @kids.eat.in.color on Instagram. Jennifer is a Registered Dietitian and aims at getting picky eaters to eat but along the wat she shares wonder advice and tips for health and nutrition.

Sugar content is probably the biggest issue for me. I couldn’t believe how much sugar was in 1 bar! For my oldest who has food issues, my goal was to find a healthy alternative to the sugary goodness. CLIF bars for kids are great and so are LARA bars! I find that we spend less money now since switching the kiddos snacks/ cereal bars to healthier versions. They get filled up, there’s no sugar rush then crash. Fig and date bars are amazing! They are sweet enough to be a treat yet packed with goodness for their growing bodies!

I am in no way an expert. Just a mom who was shocked when I started reading the LABELS on my boys snacks and food.

My kiddos love to pair one of the bars with fruit for breakfast. Alone for a snack or on the go. Some nights they eat on before bed.

The filled clif bars you can even put in the fridge to get cold for a fun little treat!

I hope this helps shed some light for someone. And hey, i still give them chewy bars sometimes. No one is perfect.
